groundbreaking scientific news from the franconian space hq. ministers johannes albert and johannes paluka did some research on the moon for their new moon-project. they told us about the days and that it’s not that quiet anymore up there as people thought so far. don’t expect weightlessness up there, expect more abfahrt, they report. but they also discovered new robot dance moves in the nighttime. better known as the dark side. as always international interest in this is huge. moon, the first franconian techno-scientifics in space, checked out the area with very special research findings. smells like future historical stuff.

the lunes de fiel compilation kicks-off with an extended uptempo trapped-in-a-maze hysteria set in a psychedelic 90s norwegian remake of potemkin in the harbor of bergen. in the woods of woody lithuania it continues with a road movie starring a young smugglers couple and arguably the most legendary love scene in film history. the story ends at night with a directors cut of a downhill indiana jones on lsd fighting hungry alligators at the riverside of the elbe valley. a definite must have on the new bitter moon imprint!

in the last couple of years dusseldorf producer maximiljan has made a serious impact with his eps on labels like noir, liebe*detail and mobilee. now he is stepping up to make his moon harbour debut. on his first ep for the label, maximiljan serves up three deeply unique tech house cuts that are designed for maximum dancefloor dynamism.

outboxx return to brstl two years on from their first release on the label, tougher and more dance floor focused. although primarily known for deeper house sounds for labels such as futureboogie, they have never been afraid to experiment as exemplified on their debut lp for idle hands. here they turn their attention to deep techno, with two stripped back cuts that retain the warmth of their other productions. sequential circles drills down on a singular, angular riff whilst neatly deployed percusiion hits at just the right moments. moon loop whirls round on a deep spacey groove in keeping with its title. another strong release from the bristol focused brstl label.

the 6-track *swim mountain ep* was self-recorded and produced by multi-instrumentalist tom skyrme half in los angeles, half in london and features the widely-blogged *dream it real*. the ep is a psych-pop collage of sounds fusing 60s studio ethics and modern production techniques. drawing influences from the harmony-heavy songwriters of the 60s and 70s (argent & blunsonte, rundgren, nillson and the wilson brothers) and the bossa nova chord progressions of brazilians tom jobim and joao gilberto. having been composed and recorded between the juxtaposing environments of rainy london streets and the sunny beaches of la, this accomplished debut has a a genuinely unique sound that is truly striking for a debut record.

southern moon is the first pre single of the upcoming munk album and comes with remixes by hnny (local talk) and darius syrossian (hot creations).. with its crisp house beat, funk baseline and beautiful singing of lizzie paige this track is a shiny little summersong that makes you think of the great production of trevor horn or masters at work with a new edge.

italys niccolo detti aka nicco launched the recline music imprint mid 2008 and has since gone on to release material from the likes of oxia, mic newman and anonym. here we see nicco return with some new material via the imprint, in the shape of moon games, whilst enlisting some heavy hitting remix artists as well to create a punchy package with a widespread appeal. the original mix of moon games kicks things off, a classic meets contemporary house number. fusing old school elements such as meandering organ lines and stuttering guitar licks, while dubbed out vocals and bumpy rhythms add a modern charm to the composition.

fred p immerses himself further into his techno alter ego, bringing more depth and insight to the saga, using sound to transcend time and space. *serinatatis* starts off the proceedings with a relentless drive and lofty pulsating pads that give you the feeling of a dismal oasis, with its brooding bassline and obscure vocals penetrating the construct. *dark population* takes us further down the rabbit hole into deeper rhythmic vibrations. this hypnotic ceremonial floor shaker echoes the cerebral ethos of the ep. last, but not least, *convective zone* cracks the sky and lets the sun shine in with its rolling baseline and ethereal chord structure. homage to the term techno soul is paid in full here as a trumpet blares through without losing the depth of the moment.

following up to their much applauded international debut save the youth, denmarks answer to warpaint,giana factory, return with their second album lemon moon this spring 2014. fronted by louise foo (sister of sharin of the raveonettes) and flanked by lisbet fritze (who also plays guitar in the trentemoller band) and sofie johanne, giana factory specialize in a wonderful kind of iced pop, beautiful songwriting with a lot of depth and diy attitude punch.

title track don t stop is a loose and playful thing that chucks loopy, circular drums, little vocal riffs, synth stabs and tumbling toms into the mix and lets them all groove along for almost six infectious minutes. its a spritely, silvery and slithering concoction that makes you shake your every limb. stare is a deeper, darker thing with rattling snares rolling over flappy kick drums and wobbling synths ducking in and out of the space left behind. its a tumultuous, drum lead affair that toys with your expectation, threatening to drop or explode but never quite doing so, instead keeping you right on the edge of your seat throughout. the final offering is nian which again has super well defined drums and hits all tumbling and sparking off each other. it s spacious stuff, too, and the indecipherable foreign language vocals add another layer of intrigue to what is already a fascinating cut.
